NAVER CEO Choi Soo-yeon attended a meeting of the UN Global Compact Board at United Nations Headquarters in New York on September 19 (local time), the company announced today.
The meeting brought together key Board members, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Sanda Ojiambo, CEO of the UN Global Compact, to discuss the role of business in advancing sustainable development.
The UN Global Compact is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, bringing together more than 25,000 companies and organizations in over 100 countries. Drawing on its Ten Principles in the four areas of human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption, it helps companies pursue sustainable growth and put responsible business practices into action.
During the visit, Choi suggested that the UN Global Compact consider using NAVER’s AI-based digital tools to strengthen collaboration across its global network. These include NAVER WORKS, a collaboration platform from NAVER Cloud, as well as Papago Plus, NAVER’s AI-powered translation and interpretation service.
The proposal is designed to support implementation of the UN Global Compact’s 2026–2030 Strategy, which aims to help companies move beyond statements of commitment on sustainability and take concrete action.
NAVER plans to explore potential avenues for cooperation with the UN Global Compact’s headquarters, its more than 70 Country Networks, and participating small and medium-sized enterprises. The company envisions using AI and digital technology to strengthen cross-border collaboration and maximize operational efficiency. The form and timing of the cooperation, along with other details, will be determined through consultations.
“An efficient collaboration framework that breaks down barriers between countries and regions is essential to building greater momentum behind the UN Global Compact’s work,” said NAVER CEO Choi Soo-yeon. “I hope NAVER’s AI and digital technologies will support the digital transformation of the Global Compact’s Country Networks and help speed up communication across the globe.”
In September 2025, Choi was officially appointed to the UN Global Compact Board, becoming the first Korean to serve on it in 17 years. During her three-year term, she will continue her work to promote responsible technology development, advance global digital cooperation, and expand the sustainable business ecosystem.
