Team NAVER announced that the supercomputer “Sejong,” installed at NAVER’s recently inaugurated second data center, “GAK Sejong,” ranked 22nd in the SC23 list of Top 500 Supercomputers. SC23, an international conference for high-performance computing held in Denver, Colorado, this year, witnessed this notable achievement. The computing power of the “Sejong” supercomputer reaches up to 32.97 PFLOPS, making it the highest-performing supercomputer in Korea as of November this year.
Since the latter half of 2020, NAVER has been operating supercomputers, and the most recent addition, “Sejong,” is twice the size of its predecessors. With “GAK Sejong” now equipped with supercomputers, Team NAVER plans to lead technological innovation and accelerate the expansion of its artificial intelligence (AI) ventures.
“Sejong” consists of 2,240 NVIDIA A100 Tensor Core GPUs, enabling it to perform high-speed, low-latency communication through the NVIDIA Quantum InfiniBand networking platform and in-network computing. Additionally, it features a dedicated storage capacity of 3.6 petabytes (PB) specifically for the supercomputer and supports a network bandwidth of 22 Tbps.
Team NAVER added that the supercomputer was named “Sejong” as a tribute to King Sejong, a key figure in the development and popularization of the Korean language. The name of the area where the supercomputer is situated is also ‘Sejong’.
Lee Sang-jun, CIO at NAVER CLOUD, commented, “Supercomputers are increasingly recognized as vital infrastructure for maintaining a lead in AI, reflecting the technological prowess of a country or a business. With a supercomputer of global caliber in its possession, NAVER is well-positioned to strengthen its competitive edge in AI technology.”
The nonprofit organization “Top 500 (Top500.org)” has been publishing a biannual list of the world’s top 500 supercomputers in June and November since 1993.
