NAVER CLOUD (CEO Kim Yu-won) and NAVER LABS (CEO Seok Sang-ok) will join forces with CJ OliveNetworks (CEO Yoo In-sang) in a collaborative effort for smart city business development. The three companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) focused on the “Joint Discovery of Smart City Projects and Commercialization of Platforms” last November 29 at NAVER’s second office building, 1784.
Through this agreement, the three companies aim to collaboratively discover and promote smart city business opportunities in Korea and abroad. Their joint efforts will focus on uncovering and fostering the commercialization of smart city platforms based on digital twin technology, utilized for urban management, robotics, and augmented reality. They also plan to develop and provide smart city services and solutions, combining each company’s unique technological strengths and capabilities.
NAVER CLOUD is set to ensure the reliable functionality of information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure for smart cities through its dedicated platform. It also plans to discover and support smart city opportunities in Korea and abroad, aiming to become a leader in the smart city sector. Concurrently, NAVER LABS will contribute its expertise in digital twin and robotics technologies incorporated in its self-developed artificial intelligence (AI)–based digital twin solution “ALIKE” and NAVER CLOUD’s platform- and 5G-based autonomous service robot “Rookie.” NAVER CLOUD and NAVER LABS have already showcased their integration of these technologies in their innovative platform-style office building “1784,” which is recognized as Korea’s first robot-friendly building.
CJ OliveNetworks will develop and deliver services related to the smart city project and support a diverse array of content suited for integration with digital twins in smart cities. Capitalizing on their advanced technology and the experienced leadership of CEO Yoo In-sang, who has a track record of managing the Sejong and Busan national pilot smart cities, CJ OliveNetworks plans to actively seek out opportunities in the smart city business, both domestically and internationally.
Kim Yu-won, CEO of NAVER CLOUD, stated, “We will actively engage in the exploration of smart city business, utilizing Team NAVER’s cutting-edge AI technology along with the robust NAVER CLOUD platform.”
Seok Sang-ok, CEO of NAVER LABS, commented, “We have already been utilizing our digital twin technology, which links people and spaces. We aim to apply it in the development of smart cities by integrating it with urban management systems, robotics, and autonomous driving technologies.”
Yoo In-sang, CEO of CJ OliveNetworks, stated, “We will actively seek opportunities in the smart city sector, driving innovation in spaces and everyday life through digital transformation and data-driven approaches. We foresee a collaborative synergy in the realm of smart cities, achieved by seamlessly integrating the NAVER CLOUD platform with the technological prowess of NAVER LABS.”
NAVER CLOUD has also entered into an agreement with CJ OliveNetworks to collaborate on the HyperCLOVA X initiative. As a key collaborative partner, CJ OliveNetworks intends to provide customized HyperCLOVA X technology services and collaborate closely with NAVER CLOUD on both technological aspects and the combined management of the joint business ventures.
