NAVER Z and Sharjah Media City in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are joining forces to collaborate in metaverse-related content and technology.
[Note] Sharjah Media City: Established in 2017, this free media zone in Sharjah, one of the UAE’s seven emirates, aspires to be a central hub for the creative media sector.

NAVER Z and Sharjah Media City signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for metaverse and technology collaboration last December 8. A distinguished delegation from Sharjah, including H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and Dr. Khalid Omar Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Media City, attended the signing ceremony at the Pangyo Tech1 office. During their visit, they had the opportunity to experience the ZEPETO motion capture studio and the application of generative AI in ZEPETO. Additionally, they engaged in discussions on the cutting-edge technologies of NAVER Z.
The two parties plan to pursue comprehensive collaboration through the MOU, focusing on metaverse content and immersive technology. To begin with, they will discuss strategies to promote Sharjah Media City on the global metaverse platform “ZEPETO.” Moreover, NAVER Z will leverage its expertise in metaverse and immersive technology and participate in an active exchange of related content trends.
The partnership will also nurture talent through various exchange programs. NAVER Z aims to establish a training program for metaverse content production for Sharjah Media City and explore ways to support creators and start-ups. Additionally, collaborative projects are in the pipeline, such as producing media with virtual artists, organizing metaverse film festivals, and hosting various cultural exchange activities.
Ricky Kang, Global Head of Business at NAVER Z, commented, “With over 400 million users worldwide, ZEPETO has rapidly risen as the premier metaverse platform in Asia. We will actively exchange our rich content and technological expertise with Sharjah to support its digital transformation and goal to become a global hub for metaverse creators.”
Khalid Omar Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Media City, stated, “Following the recent launch of Shams AI Lab, this MOU with NAVER Z marks the commencement of our venture into the metaverse, providing a platform for content creators in the UAE, the Middle East, and North Africa. We look forward to growing alongside NAVER Z.”
