NAVER Aims to Patent World’s First Robot-Friendly Headquarters
- World’s first patent application for a building with cloud-based robot system, where the space itself becomes a ‘digital assistant’
- In addition to the 22 newly patented technologies, over 230 patented technologies such as robotics, autonomous driving systems and controls will be applied to the new building

NAVER Corporation today announced that it has applied for a patent for its second headquarters, the world’s first robot-friendly building.
The building integrates and connects technologies that will facilitate NAVER’s future, such as robotics, autonomous driving, artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing. This is currently under construction next to NAVER Green Factory, which is the first headquarters of NAVER Corporation.
The new building will be designed exclusively for cloud-based robots that will reliably perform tasks and navigate surroundings with a high degree of autonomy and acute awareness of humans and situations. The robots’ advanced capabilities will be made possible in part by 5G Ultra Reliable Low Latency Communication (URLLC), a primary enabler in risk-sensitive use cases.
NAVER has developed and validated various technologies that will make it possible for autonomous robots and humans to safely cohabitate in the building. NAVER is the first in the world to have applied for 22 patents on these new technologies with cloud-based robotic architecture.

In addition, NAVER has applied for various other technology patents, including 92 for artificial intelligence robot cloud (ARC), 76 for indoor service robots and convenience technologies controlled by ARC (such as AMBIDEX and AROUND), and 42 for operating robots in a robot-friendly building, such as indoor mapping technologies, automated indoor map updates and obstacle recognition technology. NAVER also has applied for about 237 patents related to the robot-friendly building construction including the 22 for the building, and the number of applications is expected to increase.
At this innovative second headquarters, NAVER will integrate its latest advanced technologies into its business systems to provide digital convergence solutions that leverage its utilization of robots and AI. Employees will be able to experience a new workplace where the space itself becomes an ‘administrative assistant,’ with capabilities, such as face recognition and delivery using autonomous driving robots.
“NAVER's second office building, the world’s first robot-friendly building, will be a global reference space where 5G-specific network, cloud, robotics, automation, digitalization and AI are all connected in a singularly advanced enterprise,” said Sangok Seok, Chief Executive Officer of NAVER LABS.
