NAVER Cloud Names Co-CEO to Accelerate Global Expansion and Technology Development

- CEO Park Weon-gi to focus on NAVER Cloud’s global business expansion as the head of APAC business development after helping Co-CEO Kim Yoo-won’s soft-landing into his role

NAVER Cloud announced today that the company appointed Kim Yoo-won, Data Director at NAVER, to co-chief executive officer at its most recent board of directors meeting. Candidate Kim will start his new role alongside current CEO Park Weon-gi in September.
 
Co-CEO Park will work on continuing projects through the end of this year and then focus on the company’s global business expansion as the head of APAC(Asia-Pacific) business development next year.
 
NAVER Cloud’s board of directors confirmed the leadership change as business growth accelerates and the competition with global cloud service providers intensifies. With this leadership change, NAVER Cloud will focus on global expansion and business advancement simultaneously in order to keep up with global competition.
 
Co-CEO Park has led the company since 2014. Under his leadership, NAVER embarked on a full-fledged cloud business in 2017, growing the company’s capabilities to the same level as other global cloud service providers in terms of products and technology in just five years.
 
Through the leadership change, co-CEO Park will leverage his experience at NAVER Cloud to lead the business expansion in the APAC region, an area of strategic focus for the company. 
 
Co-CEO candidate Kim, a leading data technology expert in Korea, will further advance and accelerate the growth of current cloud business. He joined NAVER (formerly NHN) in 2006, working on data analysis and application while leading the company’s big data and machine-learning research. Kim has supported key decisions for NAVER’s business and services with insights based on data and led its data-driven digital transformation.
 
Kim’s deep understanding of NAVER’s technologies and services will enable him to maximize synergies between NAVER and the cloud business. At the same time, Kim will lead the company’s growth as a global cloud platform with his expertise in the tech industry, business strategy and planning.
 
NAVER Cloud expects to build globally competitive cloud technology by creating synergies with various NAVER technologies including big data, which is one of Kim's strengths, as well as CLOVA (AI), Papago (AI-powered translation cloud service) and robotics.
