NAVER News Evolves into a Subscription Platform and Supports the News Ecosystem with Technological Solutions

On the 17th, during “Media Connect Day”, NAVER unveiled a news service, which has evolved into a subscription-centered platform, and technological solutions for news publishers to sustain a healthy news ecosystem.
NAVER offers data and technological tools to news publishers
NAVER has accumulated various technologies necessary for media platforms, including traffic distribution, natural language processing and content automation. NAVER plans to support individual technology units and data in the future so that news companies can begin new experiments.
First of all, NAVER will allow news companies to leverage content curated by Smart Content Studio (SCS) on their own website. ▲ 'Curation Assistance', an automated content curation tool that helps produce news in various ways ▲ 'Transform API' that can convert foreign languages, Chinese characters, etc. into Korean or can apply voice change technology and▲'Cleanbot', a malicious comment detection technology, will be provided sequentially from the first quarter of next year.
Furthermore, NAVER plans to release content-based technologies to enable new opportunities such as news summarization, positive/negative analysis, etc. Also, the company plans to provide analysis reports to enable cross-analysis of statistical data with a continuous monitoring system that can send notifications when failure is detected.
NAVER News is evolving into a subscription-centered platform
During ‘Media Connect Day’, the current status of NAVER News was also revealed; NAVER News has transformed into a subscription-centered platform since the start of the 'News Editing' service.
About 5 years after the launch of the ‘News Editing’ service, the total number of subscribers of NAVER News reached 26.44 million with an average of 7 news companies per person and about 70% of news companies have more than 1 million subscribers.
as of October, the number of subscribers to ‘Reporter Home’ also increased by an average of 300,000 per month, surpassing 8 million in May this year, and is expected to exceed 10 million by the end of the year. Articles curated by reporters in each ‘Reporter Home’ are being serviced as ‘Reporter Recommendation Card’ in MY News since July of this year, and an average of 100,000 daily users are consuming interesting news through this service.
In addition, NAVER opened ‘Reporter Talk’ that allows reporters and subscribers to communicate more closely, and as of October, about 176 reporters have opened a talk and are using it as a channel for support and reporting purposes. NAVER expanded activities of ‘Reporter Talk’ to the article text and people card on NAVER Search, and NAVER will continue to strengthen the reporter subscription model.
NAVER also announced plans to expand its channels so that users can easily access high-quality, reliable articles from the press. In the ‘In-depth Planning’ corner, which was introduced in July of last year, NAVER is publishing articles by topic, and as of October, about 230,000 diverse articles have been introduced. NAVER News is also preparing to open ‘Press Edition’ and a weekly corner in each press home.
