NAVER is using Korea’s first hyper-scale artificial intelligence (AI), “HyperCLOVA,” in NAVER Shopping to provide sellers and buyers with an enhanced commerce experience.
Lengthy product names with product codes, event details, and specifications are automatically reworded to improve their readability
NAVER Corporation (CEO Han Sung-sook) introduced HyperCLOVA to the “Shopping” section on the NAVER mobile app on July 22. For complex and lengthy product names that contain a lot of information, such as product codes, specifications, and event details, HyperCLOVA automatically simplifies and rephrases them into intuitive, user-friendly names. For example, a product named “0000 (brand name) Men’s 21SS Genuine Leather, Multiline, Slim Fit, Dandy Cowhide Sneakers FQKD1314GRT” would be automatically rephrased by HyperCLOVA as “0000 (brand name) Men’s 21SS Genuine Leather Cowhide Sneakers” to make it more user-friendly and easier to understand.
HyperCLOVA goes beyond simplifying complex product names by sorting out keywords; it also enhances descriptions by identifying specific product features to improve comprehension. For instance, if a product is named "0000 (brand name) Coin Purse XX0000 (product code) Black," HyperCLOVA may rephrase it as "Safe Coin Purse for Kids" to provide additional information about the product's intended use.
HyperCLOVA, utilizing its extensive knowledge of the Korean language, showcases its capability to summarize essential information and create new sentences. It can modify product names as a human writer would for curation, and can even enhance product descriptions by identifying detailed features. Initially, it will be used for the Shopping section’s “It Girl” card, where complex product names are currently shown without edits. NAVER plans to expand HyperCLOVA to the “Women,” “Men,” and “Kids” cards, as well as other non-fashion categories that can benefit from curation.
Huh Ji-ae, leader of NAVER CLOVA Interface Connect (CIC), said, “Efficient and concise product copies are crucial in the Shopping section since it showcases a wide range of products, and lengthy product names are often truncated, causing difficulty in reading. With HyperCLOVA's ability to edit product names, we anticipate that users will be able to easily identify their desired products from diverse options.”

NAVER also implemented HyperCLOVA on its AI-powered shopping campaign manager “AiMD.” AiMD automates the entire process of organizing a shopping campaign, from choosing the theme and creating the campaign title to selecting products. This makes it easier for sellers to launch high-quality campaigns and increases their chances of having their products exposed to the public. Currently, NAVER Shopping team is using AiMD to organize shopping campaigns, and 90% of the products selected by AiMD are adopted by the team, indicating that the AI is efficient in planning events similar to those organized by human teams. Furthermore, NAVER plans to upgrade AiMD and provide it to individual Smart Store owners.
In addition to NAVER Shopping, HyperCLOVA is also being integrated into other services used by millions of people. In May, it was commercialized into a search service for the first time in Korea and is helping correct misspelled search queries or recommend adequate keywords. HyperCLOVA will also be integrated into voice recognition AI engines for services like CLOVA Note and CLOVA CareCall.
