NAVER Cloud Demonstrates e-Um 5G at Construction Site, a First in Korea
“e-Um 5G Secures Work Stability at Construction Sites with Poor Wireless Networks”
NAVER Cloud Demonstrates e-Um 5G at Construction Site, a First in Korea
- e-Um 5G allows for seamless communication without dead zones and high-quality video streaming
- NAVER Cloud verifies e-Um 5G–based construction solutions to ensure work efficiency and stability at construction sites

NAVER Cloud (CEO Kim Yoo-won) announced on May 25 that the company established e-Um 5G (private 5G network) with Hoban Construction at the construction site of “Hwaseong Bibong B2 Hoban Summit Apartments” for the first time in Korea, demonstrating its effectiveness. While the Serious Accidents Punishment Act has become more stringent and safety concerns in construction sites have increased recently, operations based on e-Um 5G are expected to enhance efficiency and stability.
e-Um 5G is a private, customized communication network exclusively available in designated areas, such as buildings and factories, different from public 5G networks provided by telecommunications companies. The robot-friendly building NAVER 1784 is one of the notable sites where e-Um 5G is established. The implementation of e-Um 5G at Hoban Apartments marks the first case where NAVER Cloud has provided and demonstrated e-Um 5G for external use after NAVER 1784.
Establishing e-Um 5G at a construction site enables seamless on-site communication without dead zones. This means that even during the construction phase when the Internet network is not yet installed, it is possible to establish real-time integrated control based on smart Internet of Things (IoT) and digital twin technologies, as well as an infrastructure to monitor the construction site and safety issues without network interruption.
NAVER Cloud, Korea’s first provider of e-Um 5G, oversees frequency allocation and 5G integration support for various solutions. It established e-Um 5G at a 40,000 m2 construction site and demonstrated the application of construction solutions using allocated frequency. Multiple technologies, such as autonomous drones, Push to Talk (PTT) services, safety vests equipped with video call features, wireless closed-circuit televisions (CCTVs), and hydration heat sensors, have also been validated using the e-Um 5G network.
NAVER LABS and the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) played a significant role in supporting the demonstration. As the first to operate autonomous driving robots based on e-Um 5G and cloud technology at NAVER 1784 in the world, NAVER LABS utilized its experience in integrating 5G and devices to transmit high-quality videos and data from different solutions. Meanwhile, MSIT facilitated swift frequency allocation and wireless station licensing by providing support for the establishment of a practical test center for the demonstration of e-Um 5G.
“Until now, construction sites have had poor wireless networks, making it difficult to adopt solutions for safety management due to limitations with Wi-Fi and traditional mobile networks. However, this time, the demonstration has confirmed the effectiveness of construction solutions such as streaming high-quality videos, securing work efficiency and stability. Moving forward, NAVER Cloud will provide e-Um 5G networks by integrating solutions optimized for various industrial sites, in addition to the construction sector.” said Han Sang-young, Executive Director of Cloud Strategy & Product Planning at NAVER Cloud.
Hoban Construction Vice President Moon Gab stated, “With the strengthened Serious Accidents Punishment Act and increased attention to on-site accidents, technologies to minimize these unfortunate events are being enhanced. We hope that the demonstration of e-Um 5G presents a vision for a smart construction site that integrates various technologies.”
