NAVER CLOUD(CEO Kim Yoo-won) attended the inauguration ceremony for the “Hyperscale AI Promotion Council” held at NAVER 1784 on June 29 as a co-chair and expressed the ambition to lead digital innovation by strengthening hyperscale AI cooperation.
The “Hyperscale AI Promotion Council,” launched by the Korea Software Industry Association (Chairman Cho Jun-hee; hereinafter “KOSA”), seeks to prepare hyperscale AI companies in Korea to respond organically to the rapidly changing AI environment and strengthen strategic cooperation. About 90 representatives attended the ceremony, including Lee Jong-ho, Minister of Science and ICT; Ko Jin, Chairman of the Digital Platform Government Committee; Cho Jun-hee, Chairman of KOSA; Kim Yoo-won, CEO of NAVER CLOUD; and Bae Kyung-hoon, head of LG AI Research Institute.
At the ceremony, 105 companies in Korea, from big tech companies with hyperscale AI technology to IT service providers, AI startups, and hidden champions in AI, were present. In particular, NAVER CLOUD and LG AI Research Institute were elected as co-chairs at the founders’ meeting held by KOSA in April.
The “Hyperscale AI Promotion Council” will lead various activities to enhance Korea’s hyperscale AI competitiveness and actively contribute to transforming Korea into a digital powerhouse. The council will also work to strengthen the foundation for developing hyperscale AI, create services that leverage the hyperscale AI technology to expand the market, and address and discuss regulation improvements for facilitating businesses. More specifically, NAVER CLOUD plans to showcase its upcoming hyperscale AI model, “HyperCLOVA X,” and exert efforts to maintain the AI sovereignty amid the fierce global competition for hyperscale AI.
NAVER CLOUD CEO Kim Yoo-won said, “As a co-chair of the council, we will actively work to act as a hub for gathering the voices of the AI industry to resolve relevant issues and for facilitating collaboration among businesses to develop various services that leverage AI. NAVER CLOUD will integrate HyperCLOVA X and other advanced technologies and knowledge of council members to maintain sovereignty in the global AI competition and contribute to positioning Korea as a digital powerhouse.”
Minister of Science and ICT Lee Jong-Ho said in his congratulatory remarks at the inauguration ceremony, “Based on the progress of the AI policy and the digital capabilities of the private sector, Korean companies are driving the development of hyperscale AI and services that leverage AI. I hope this council, an exemplary cooperation model led by the private sector and supported by the government, will serve as a foundation for Korean companies to gather their resources and grow and develop together globally.”
Cho Jun-hee, Chairman of KOSA, said, “We’ve exerted a lot of effort into bringing leading hyperscale AI companies in Korea to join the council during the first half of the year. We will provide unlimited support to assist all 105 companies, including our co-chairs NAVER CLOUD and LG AI Research Institute, to grow into top global companies.” <END>
