NAVER Unveils an Advanced Generative AI Search Service “Cue:”, Capable of Interpreting Sophisticated Queries and Providing Systematic Results

NAVER (CEO Choi Soo-yeon) is launching the beta version of the generative AI service “Cue:” on September 20.
 
While the conversational AI “CLOVA X” introduced last month is a tool to elevate productivity for businesses and individuals, in various tasks such as document writing and creative endeavors, “Cue:” integrates generative AI to search, greatly enhancing search convenience by interpreting the user’s intentions behind sophisticated search queries.
 
“CLOVA X,” combined with the diverse B2B service lineup of HyperCLOVA X, can be utilized as various generative AI services that boost productivity across industries, including finance, manufacturing, and retail. This has led to a rise in collaboration inquiries with “CLOVA X” from leading companies in Korea. On the other hand, “Cue:” provides a new search experience to general users with intuitive responses. Moreover, it utilizes NAVER’s extensive ecosystem encompassing Shopping, Pay, and Place, further enhancing the values of diversity and connectivity that NAVER Search aims for.

“Cue:” generates responses by precisely comprehending queries with a complicated structure and independently undergoing a systematic search process. Notably, the unique “multi-step reasoning” technology integrated into “Cue:” helps users understand the logical flow behind the generated responses. Throughout this process, “Cue:” provides credible responses based on search results, increasing its value as a search service and setting it apart from traditional generative AI chatbots that formulate answers from pretrained data.


“Cue:” also overcomes the constraints of conventional searches. Keyword-based searches require users to repeat the searches until they find the desired results, as they typically fetch documents matching the provided search keywords. On the other hand, even when provided with sentences mixed with diverse intentions, “Cue:” efficiently identifies adequate information scattered across NAVER services and search results, and combines them to create comprehensive answers. This effectively streamlines the user’s search process. 

 


For instance, when asked a complex question like “Recommend beginner-friendly plants for a studio apartment and their care instructions,” “Cue:” delivers a comprehensive response in one try. It formulates a search strategy, from the characteristics and advantages of plants ideal for a studio environment to their care guidelines. After going through a step-by-step search process, “Cue:” provides answers and reference information based on the collected search results. 


Going beyond a one-time question and answer (Q and A), “Cue:” is also equipped with various features to assist users with additional exploration. For example, clicking “View more” within a response will take the user to the comprehensive search results, allowing them to view related content. The “Follow-up question” section at the bottom lets users discover related topics and information. The “Search” feature also offers a flexible search flow, facilitating users to delve deeper into related content. 


Furthermore, “Cue:” is linked with a diverse range of content available on NAVER Search, such as text, images, and videos, as well as with specialized knowledge bases on vertical topics like web originals, movies, festivals, TV programs, and performances. This offers users comprehensive search outcomes enriched with various visual elements tailored to their queries.

Your search experience is maximized by combining “Generative AI Technology” and the “solidly built NAVER ecosystem.”

“Cue:” assists users in easily reaching their search objectives by integrating with various NAVER services, such as Shopping, Pay, and Place. It has excellent usability in trip planning, product comparison, shopping, and searching local information. In particular, its strength lies in creating a seamless flow from search to action that leads users to carry out various tasks quickly and conveniently without additional searches. 

 

For instance, if a user is looking for a recipe, traditionally, after searching for the information, the user had to navigate a vertical shopping service to buy the ingredients. “Cue:” bridges these actions. If a user looks up, “Tell me a zucchini pancake recipe for Chuseok and where I can buy the required ingredients,” “Cue:” offers a concise response outlining the ingredients and cooking method. It also includes a direct link to NAVER’s Grocery Shopping service, allowing users to order products for prompt delivery based on their provided address. 


Moreover, for a query like “Show me table lamps under KRW 200,000 that can be delivered today,” “Cue:” looks through information from NAVER Shopping reviews and displays options available for same-day delivery without additional browsing on the shopping platform. If requested “Recommend me a must-visit cafe in Jeju Island that is pet-friendly,” “Cue:” leverages data from NAVER Place information to make recommendations and even provides a direct link to NAVER Booking, enhancing the search convenience. 

 

NAVER will continue to prioritize the values of ‘diversity’ and ‘connectivity’ in the era of AI search
For service stability, NAVER will first introduce “Cue:” as a closed beta only for the PC version starting at 10:00 a.m. on September 20. Interested users can sign up using their NAVER ID on a dedicated service page and access the service once approved. Throughout the beta phase, NAVER will focus on refining service quality, tackling issues like hallucination, and enhancing features, with plans to sequentially integrate with the comprehensive search and further strengthen the connection with NAVER services. 

 

In the age of generative AI–driven search, NAVER plans to maximize the core principles and values that have been upheld by the Search platform. Throughout the PC and mobile phases, NAVER has prioritized the value of content diversity and connectivity, leading the search market by providing elevated search satisfaction to domestic users via services like Knowledge iN, Blog, Cafe, and other user-generated content (UGC) services, as well as its self-developed AI recommendation technologies like AiTEMS, AiRSPACE, and AiRS.
