NAVER Corporation (CEO Choi Soo-yeon) is undergoing a significant restructuring, transitioning from 5 company-in-company (CIC) organizations to 12 specialized units.
These units are organized into three main categories: Product & Platform, Business & Service, and Content. Product & Platform aims to enhance user experience and lead technological innovation as a development and design-driven organizations. Business & Service is set to explore new business opportunities and focus on enhancing the attractiveness of service offerings, and Content prioritizes on creating and delivering user-centric content. In addition, services such as CHZZK, Band, and Music will operate under Cell structures to promote agile and autonomous development.
This restructuring supports NAVER’s objective to integrate AI throughout its technology landscape and improve expertise in key business areas, like advertising, shopping, and local services.
NAVER intends to segment and specialize its expertise in core sectors of the Internet market—advertising, shopping, and local services—to effectively respond to market changes and actively pursue new business opportunities. The Product & Platform segment, which aims to deliver differentiated user experiences and drive long-term technological growth, based on NAVER’s core technologies such as AI, data analytics, and search functionalities, serves as the engine of TEAM NAVER’s innovation efforts.
TEAM NAVER is bolstering its governance system, which is central to initiating projects that will drive its expansion. This includes establishing three key committees under CEO Choi, focusing on Global Management, Product & Technology, and Employee Growth, to foster cross-departmental collaboration.
"At the 'Companion Day' event, a communication channel for all employees, CEO Choi explained the background of the reorganizations and stated, “In response to the evolving internet landscape where boundaries between business areas are once again blurring and the technological paradigm is centered on AI, the CIC-centric system that has driven NAVER’s growth over the past nine years needed to transform.” She emphasized that “By restructuring all areas including technology, business, service, and content into a flatter organizational structure with minimal hierarchy, we aim to foster diverse insights based on each area’s expertise. It is now more crucial than ever to encourage lively discussions and diverse collaborations across organizations. We are committed to developing a working culture that promotes transparent information sharing and active collaborations within the company and across TEAM NAVER, facilitating faster progress.”
The new organizational structure is set to be operational in April, with further details on the changes to be announced, reflecting the extensive nature of the restructuring.
