NAVER Knowledge iN Celebrates 22 Years with Continuous Growth, Evolving into a “Knowledge Community”

Celebrating its 22nd anniversary, NAVER Knowledge iN has evolved from a knowledge-sharing platform to a vibrant “knowledge community” where users can express opinions and connect over shared interests and issues.
On April 24, NAVER (CEO Choi Soo-yeon) announced a significant update to Knowledge iN aimed at fostering closer interactions among users and facilitating continuous relationships. This update simplifies the process for more users to contribute answers, making the service more inclusive.
The recent update introduces several new features: discontinuation of the question closure option, the option to select multiple answers, unlimited follow-up questions and responses, and an answer voting system. These enable users to offer multiple perspectives on a single question and engage in in-depth discussions. As interactions accumulate over time, the depth and trustworthiness of responses on Knowledge iN are expected to improve.
The option to close a question has been removed, and there are now no limits on how many answers can be selected. Previously, if a user posted a question on Knowledge iN, they could only choose one answer. Furthermore, once a question was closed or an answer selected, users were unable to make new responses, limiting additional commnunication soley to the comment feature. With the new system, questions remain open indefinitely, allowing for ongoing discussions and enabling questioners to receive the most relevant and detailed updates and select more than one response.
Lifting the limits on the number of follow-up questions and answers allows for more open and extended interactions between questioners and responders. The feature for additional questions allows a questioner to inquire further based on the initial responses received. Previously, only two additional questions and answers were permitted, but the latest update encouraged unlimited follow-ups for both questioners and responders. This allows for ongoing dialogue, which is especially useful if updates or new issues related to the original answers arise. This will enable a single Knowledge iN answer to accumulate diverse information over time, significantly improving the quality and depth of the responses.
General users who used to refer to Knowledge iN responses through searches can now actively participate in the process through the newly implemented UP/DOWN voting feature. This allows anyone, not just the original questioners or responders, to upvote answers they find useful, interesting, or agreeable. The more UP votes an answer receives, the more visible it becomes to other users, thereby facilitating greater participation in Knowledge iN and enhancing credibility of high-quality answers with strong support.
NAVER plans to continue advancing Knowledge iN while preserving its core values, which have been maintained for over two decades. The service also seeks to meet the interests of new users, particularly those in their teens and twenties who prefer interactive, topic-centered communication.
Kang Chun-sik, Leader of NAVER Knowledge iN commented, “Knowledge iN has been fundamental to NAVER’s development, reflecting our commitment to connecting users. For 22 years since its launch, it has continuously adapted to meet the needs of new users and changing trends. As the underlying desire for people to directly ask and answer each other remains strong, we are dedicated to nurturing a knowledge community where users can share and engage empathetically, aligning with the service’s core objective of addressing users’ queries.”
