Kim Yu-won, NAVER Cloud CEO, participated in NVIDIA’s annual event, “GTC 2025,” held in San Jose, USA, to strengthen cooperation with NVIDIA in building a sovereign AI ecosystem. He expressed his ambition to achieve tangible results in Southeast Asia within the year.
During the GTC event, CEO Kim took the stage as a speaker at the specially arranged “Sovereign AI Summit” session, where he introduced “HyperCLOVA X,” which validated the potential of sovereign AI using a non-English–based large language model (LLM). He also explained NAVER’s unique “AI Value Chain” and demonstrated real-world sovereign AI application cases .
In particular, he highlighted NAVER’s end-to-end capabilities across the entire AI Value Chain, including AI services, data, AI backbone, supercomputing infrastructure, cloud, and data centers, which allow the company to provide customized solutions based on the technological development stage of countries and enterprises seeking to secure sovereign AI.
CEO Kim raised the importance of AI in addressing various societal issues. As an example, he cited the AI-based welfare call service “CLOVA CareCall,” which supports elderly people living alone in a super-aged society, and the implementation of AI in security-critical national industries, such as Neurocloud project by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power and the Bank of Korea.
CEO Kim stated, “To solve the challenges faced by each country and enterprise, building respective AI capabilities and sovereign AI is essential, and NAVER will actively support such companies and nations.” He further emphasized, “It is vital to forge an ecosystem of collaboration among not only companies like NAVER that have experience across the entire AI Value Chain but also various players, including NVIDIA.”
To this end, NAVER Cloud and NVIDIA have been working closely together since the previous year, following their agreement on establishing Sovereign AI to create a concrete business model. They are also identifying partners who can collaborate on building Sovereign AI in the Southeast Asian market, focusing on LLM, infrastructure, and applications, with the goal of securing tangible success cases within the year.
