On June 3, NAVER Corporation (CEO Soo-yeon Choi) and Netflix executives held a meeting at Netflix’s Los Angeles office in the United States.
From NAVER, key leaders including CEO Soo-yeon Choi, WEBTOON Entertainment CEO Junkoo Kim, and CSO Yongsoo Kim attended. Representing Netflix were Co-CEO Greg Peters and Maria Ferreras, Global Head of Partnerships.
The leadership teams discussed the achievements of their ongoing “Ne-Net” partnership in South Korea and explored potential areas for broader collaboration based on its success.
CEO Choi shared NAVER’s distinctive journey in building a unique membership ecosystem that delivers exceptional value to users. She highlighted NAVER’s track record of innovative partnerships—both domestic and global—including the “Ne-Net” collaboration.
Netflix executives expressed strong interest in NAVER’s performance under Choi’s leadership, including in the realm of membership-based services. The two sides exchanged insights on how membership-based services could evolve going forward.
Since November last year, as part of the “Ne-Net” partnership, NAVER has offered Netflix’s ad-supported Standard plan to NAVER Plus Membership subscribers at no additional cost. The collaboration led to a 1.5x increase in new NAVER Plus sign-ups compared to the period before the partnership. Netflix, in turn, gained broader reach among Korean users through NAVER’s platform. This mutually beneficial synergy is seen as the result of the effective combination of the two companies’ platform capabilities and content strategies.
To explore future opportunities, executives from both companies introduced their respective service strengths and strategic expertise.
Kim Junkoo, CEO of WEBTOON Entertainment—currently expanding its webtoon business across North America—shared the company’s unique content strategy and long-term vision during the session.
The leadership teams of both companies viewed this initial meeting as a valuable opportunity to deepen their mutual understanding. However, they agreed to continue discussions on specific directions for collaboration through various channels going forward.
Separately, on June 3, CEO Choi also participated in a private fireside chat with Netflix employees, joined by Maria Ferreras.
During the session, Choi emphasized a shared belief that true innovation stems from putting users first and discussed the potential for deeper synergies grounded in this common philosophy. </END>
