NAVER Cloud CEO Kim Yoo-won <A World Where AI Becomes Everyone’s Competitive Edge>
NAVER Cloud CEO Kim Yoo-won talked about NAVER’s competitiveness in AI technology during “DEVIEW 2023,” NAVER’s developer conference which was held from February 27 to 28, 2023. In particular, Kim mentioned that NAVER has been securing global-level technologies and infrastructure through continuous R&D investment for the past 20 years, and has experience and know-how in global business.
NAVER’s Competitiveness: AI and Cloud Synergy Bringing New Change
First, NAVER launched the world's third, and Korea’s first hyperscale AI 'HyperCLOVA' in 2021, and in August 2023, we unveiled 'HyperCLOVA X' which combines user data and HyperCLOVA to deliver prompt responses that meet the users’ needs. Through this, companies or government institutions can develop optimized AI services that cater to their needs and create new value.
Second, large-scale infrastructure is needed to operate hyperscale AI efficiently. Accordingly, the cost of infrastructure has recently become one of the biggest concerns in the AI industry. NAVER Cloud is cooperating with Samsung Electronics to develop an AI semiconductor solution in an effort to reduce the cost of AI services, and opened a data center specialized in AI called Gak Sejong in November 2023, following the establishment of data center Gak Chuncheon.
Third, the evolution of *SaaS. NAVER WORKS, the top business messenger in the Japanese market, can be integrated with AI technology to evolve into a platform that leads the digital transformation of companies, and going further, become a super app that is necessary for the operation of smart buildings and smart cities. NAVER already started such an experiment in 1784, our second headquarters, where everything is controlled smartly through a single app NAVER WORKS, for example, from lunch box delivery to meeting room lighting and temperature adjustment.
*SaaS (Software-as-a-Service): Users are provided with the software installed in the cloud through the Internet without a separate installation or conversion process.
Lastly, sovereign cloud. Sovereign cloud refers to a cloud service that complies with government regulations of a certain country based on the local data center. Since infrastructures that can stably and safely provide such a service are essential for cloud and AI services to make inroads into the global market, NAVER Cloud is already engaging in sovereign cloud discussions with global partners.
