NAVER Corp. (CEO Choi Soo-yeon), Spotify Co-CEOs, and executives from both companies convened at Spotify’s headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden, from Wednesday, March 25, to Thursday, March 26, to discuss progress in their strategic partnership in South Korea.
The companies shared the results of their collaboration through NAVER Plus Membership and navigation services, and discussed directions for advancing their entertainment partnership from a mid- to long-term perspective. NAVER CEO Choi Soo-yeon attended the roundtable alongside Spotify Co-CEOs Alex Norström and Gustav Söderström. Working-level staff from both companies across areas including business development and marketing also joined the sessions to explore a broad range of potential collaboration opportunities.
As part of the partnership, Spotify membership has been available through NAVER Plus Membership since last November. Users can also access Spotify’s audio content through NAVER Search and the navigation feature on the NAVER Map app.
The two companies paid particular attention to the collaboration’s results, which demonstrated growth potential among younger users, including Gen Z, in a short period of time. According to NAVER, new NAVER Plus Membership sign-ups among Gen Z users rose 17%p month-over-month in December, shortly after the Spotify partnership began.
Moving forward, the two companies agreed to expand cooperation across a wide range of areas, including search, marketing, and content. As one example, Spotify adopted NAVER’s social login service, “Login with NAVER,” on March 19, further enhancing user convenience.
“Korea is an important market where a local creative ecosystem and global connectivity actively intersect,” said Alex Norström, Spotify Co-CEO. “Our partnership with NAVER is built on the belief that a global platform and a strong local ecosystem can come together to deliver meaningful value to both users and creators.”
“Cross-platform collaboration goes beyond simple integration. What matters is how we evolve together,” said Gustav Söderström, Spotify Co-CEO. “This meeting provided an opportunity for in-depth discussions on the priorities the two companies will pursue together from a long-term perspective.”
“We once again confirmed that both companies share a common philosophy and vision when it comes to supporting creator growth and enhancing user experiences,” said NAVER CEO Choi Soo-yeon. “By bringing together our services, platform capabilities, and brands, we will expand tangible collaboration so that users in Korea can experience music and audio content in even newer ways.”
