NAVER Corp. (Choi Soo-yeon, NAVER CEO) announced the beta launch of its AI search service, AI Tab, for NAVER Plus Membership users on April 27. By evaluating practical usability across its actively engaged membership base, the company plans to continuously refine the service and enhance its completeness.
Designed to comprehensively understand a user’s search intent and context, the newly launched AI Tab is a conversational AI search service that provides optimized information while naturally expanding the scope of exploration through dialogue. Users can access the feature via the main search bar on the NAVER PC homepage, at the bottom of AI Briefings, and through integrated search results across NAVER Shopping and NAVER SmartPlace. Within the first half of this year, NAVER plans to roll out AI Tab to all users and integrate it into the mobile main search bar.
Capable of accurately processing a wide spectrum of queries, AI Tab handles everything from everyday questions to advanced information searches. It delivers context-aware responses to broad prompts such as, “What should I do with my girlfriend tomorrow?” alongside complex requests like, “Recommend a cafe in Gangnam that is good for studying, has electrical outlets, and features many reviews mentioning spacious seats.” Through follow-up conversations, users can refine their search to pinpoint the information they need.
In particular, AI Tab strengthens connectivity across NAVER’s core services, including integrated search, NAVER Shopping, NAVER SmartPlace, Blogs, and Cafes. This integration allows users to view necessary information on a single screen, minimizing the need to navigate across multiple platforms. By combining user-generated content (UGC) with domain-specific data accumulated within the NAVER ecosystem, the service delivers unified, actionable information. As a result, users can quickly grasp information and make efficient decisions without parsing through countless individual reviews.
For instance, when asked to “recommend a cafe with a nice view near Hwadam Botanic Garden that’s good for a date,” AI Tab analyzes NAVER SmartPlace data, visitor reviews, and blog posts to summarize the cafe’s atmosphere and real visitor feedback. Users can then view detailed NAVER SmartPlace information on the right side of their PC screen and proceed to make a reservation.
Similarly, for a query like “recommend four-door refrigerators popular among newlyweds, preferably ones with lots of reviews from wedding planning communities,” the system provides a product selection guide and offers recommendations centered around those community reviews. Users can then review detailed information, such as benefits, shipping, and product options, on the right side of their screen before proceeding directly to purchase.
Drawing on feedback gathered during the beta period, NAVER plans to optimize response speeds and refine performance ahead of the official launch in the first half of the year, ensuring more sophisticated answers to complex, continuous queries. Later this year, AI Tab will integrate with Smart Lens to enhance the multimodal AI search experience, evolving to proactively suggest additional queries and exploration for the user.
“AI Tab marks a turning point in NAVER’s search paradigm, naturally expanding from exploration to execution,” said Choi. “By strengthening connections with vertical services like shopping and local platforms, we will deliver a differentiated AI search experience in users’ daily lives. Ultimately, our goal is to evolve into an integrated agent that connects to execution.”
